Q. how often should i brush my teeth?

A. You should aim to brush your teeth at least twice per day. Ideally you will do so soon after waking up and after your last meal of the day. Brushing 30 minutes after each meal will also help you keep your teeth as clean as possible.

Q. do i need to floss?

A. Yes. You only need to floss around the teeth you want to keep. In all seriousness, flossing is incredible useful as it removes plaque from between teeth and in areas that a toothbrush cannot reach. Flossing also protects your gums from disease and strengthens them.

Q. what happens during a new patient exam?

A. A thorough oral exam is required to evaluate and diagnose the condition of all your teeth and gums. A new patient exam includes bitewing x-rays and a panoramic radiograph in addition to photographs. This allows a more thorough examination of your oral health. At the end of the exam the dentist will discuss the findings with the individual. We encourage that patients ask questions and discuss any concerns.

Q. does whitening your teeth damage them?

A. The old adage everything in moderation applies here. In general, professional or at home whitening do not cause issues. If however you use them excessively it can stress your enamel and root structure and cause more harm than good. You can speak with our dentists regarding the right products and routines.
